Upcoming Watershed Activities

  • Kanoe the Kazoo 2011:

Kanoe the Kazoo is an annual event organized by the Kalamazoo River TMDL Implementation Committee and local watershed partners. Since 2003, this annual event has introduced over 1,000 citizens to the Kalamazoo River and its tributaries. River floats for this year were limited due to the oil spill clean up activities. Check back soon for information on the 2012 Kanoe the Kazoo event!

  • 2011 Lake Allegan Carp Derby: Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 9am - 5pm

This annual family friendly event is sponsored and supported by the Kalamazoo River TMDL Implementation Committee, Allegan County Conservation District, Muzzy Bowfishing Company, AWS Bowfishing Company, Gander Mountain, D&R Sports, and many others. The Carp Derby takes place each year at the Michigan DNR Echo Point Boat Launch near Allegan, MI around the second weekend of June during the DNR Free Fishing Weekend. A map and additional information can be found here. Check back next year for information on the 2012 event!

  • Super Soil Saturdays:

Every year volunteers with the Kalamazoo River TMDL Point Source Committee, Implementation Committee, Master Gardeners, local retailers, and other community members offer free soil testing for residents in the Kalamazoo River Watershed. The testing provides residents with information about the phosphorus content in the soil from their yards. Residents can use this information when selecting fertilizers or other lawn practices. Some of the municipalities and counties in the watershed have ordinances that limit phosphorus fertilizer use, unless a soil test shows that more phosphorus is necessary.
