West Fork Stretch 8 Description:
- Creek flows north and south along West Fork Crossing
Road behind Gander Mountain and other businesses, enters
new Lowe's construction area, flows under Westnedge Avenue
to area north of Meijer's, where a fountain is located
- Wooded wetland on northwest side of creek and narrow
strip of trees separating creek from West Fork Crossing
at beginning of stretch
- Open pool with eroding banks at Lowe's area (construction
area)
- Concrete and stone channel with mown lawn at end of
stretch
- Creek constricted by high density commercial development
- Some shading at beginning of stretch, but none at middle
and end
- Highly impacted by litter and stormwater inputs
- Poor substrate with sediment deposits
- Lowe's construction recently removed a historic weir
and reshaped a ponded area, future plans are to bury creek
in culvert to create parking space
