Natural Features of the P/A Watershed



--Mammal Data:

Mammals Observed in the Watershed

A 1999 natural features inventory of "The Groves", a technology park of Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Texas Township, conducted by the Kalamazoo Nature Center documented the presence of 10 mammals on the property. Three mammals were live trapped:

  • Deer Mouse
  • White-footed Mouse
  • Southern Flying Squirrel

Seven mammalian species were identified by track or scat:

  • White Tail Deer
  • Coytote
  • Eastern Chipmunk
  • Eastern Cottontail Rabbit
  • Eastern Fox Squirrel Racoon
  • Red Squirrel

A track, presumed to belong to a red or grey fox, was also observed.

KIESER & ASSOCIATES staff have observed the following mammals in the Portage-Arcadia watershed during field visits for this and other projects:

  • muskrat,
  • white tail deer (and tracks),
  • racoon tracks,
  • bats,
  • rabbits,
  • fox,
  • squirrels and
  • field mice.
