Axtell Creek Stretch 5 Description:

  • Creek flows from underground culvert under Westnedge Avenue and emerges at National City Bank property with highly eroding banks
  • Parking lots very close to south banks nearly overhanging steep eroding stream banks
  • Beginning of stretch contains shrubby eroding steep banks
  • Portion of stretch before Park Street has banks with mown lawn and little shading
  • Creek flows under Park Street and widens out into Crosstown Ponds with no vegetation and no shading
  • Pond banks are highly eroding, grass is mown to edges
  • Many geese and ducks strip vegetation and cause high nutrient inputs
  • Water clarity decreases
  • No shading of water
  • Flow decreases
  • Carp observed in pond
  • Northeast end of small pond east of Rose Street collects large amounts of litter at grate
  • Creek flows into underground pipe at grate
  • Muck substrate
