Axtell Creek Stretch 2 Description, as of March, 2002:

  • Creek flows under Maple Street to highly channelized stretch around east end of softball diamonds
  • Creek makes 90-degree bend at northwest corner of Maple and Crosstown intersection, then travels along Crosstown Parkway
  • Bare soil along banks
  • Shrub and wetland vegetation on left bank (facing downstream) and grass on right bank
  • Very narrow or no riparian zone
  • Some shading by deciduous vegetation on left bank
  • Erosion sites at corner of Maple and Crosstown
  • Erosion and sand deposit at Howard Street, creek becomes deeper before enters culvert
  • Fish observed
  • Much and sand substrate
