Arcadia Creek Stretch 16 Description:

  • Creek enters underground pipe at Elm Street and remains underground until it reaches the east side of Westnedge Avenue, between Water Street and Eleanor Street
  • Creek flows through deep concrete channel with weirs along bottom
  • Sediment and litter deposits upstream of these weirs
  • Creek flows into pond near Arcadia Creek Festival Site
  • Pond has steep lawn covered and stone banks, which require frequent maintenance
  • Water is spread and flow is decreased
  • Water becomes almost stagnant and nutrient rich during the summer months
  • Creek flows into underground pipe at east end of pond and remains underground until reaches Kalamazoo River at concrete outlet structure
  • Water becomes very turbid during rain events
  • Flow is very flashy during rain events, due to large area of impervious runoff
  • Carp observed in pond
